What is the history of Fort XV Borek?

Fort XV Borek is a short-distance defence armoured fort, built as part of the Przemyśl Fortress. Fort I Salis Soglio is another fortification associated with the area. The fortress construction plan was approved in 1877, and construction began the following year. The regional tourism site dates Borek itself to 1897–1900.
The national heritage portal describes the fort and attached artillery battery XVa as a well-preserved, maintained example of a group-fortification system and a stage in the development of the fortress ring. Gmina Medyka’s settlement-history page names the XVa Borek battery and remains of military barracks among the defensive works in Siedliska.
During the second Russian encirclement of the Przemyśl Fortress, from 9 November 1914 to 22 March 1915, Borek’s artillery supported a sortie toward Medyka on 18 March. The fortress commander later ordered surrender after its guns and fortifications had been destroyed. Fort XV Borek was entered in the register of monuments on 30 June 1971.
Visible remains include the entrance gate, barracks connected to the main shelter, casemate remains with a restored observation position, and ruins of the armoured battery. A commemorative plaque at the entrance honors Polish and American airmen who fought for independence in 1920.
