Where Fort I Salis Soglio stands
Fort I Salis Soglio stands in the rural area around Jaksmanice, close to the Polish-Ukrainian border. Its location is also described as Siedliska; both names refer to places within the municipality of Medyka. The fort is several dozen metres from the border.
Six auxiliary forts associated with the complex remain on the other side of the border.
How Fort XIII San Rideau fits into the forts near Medyka is another point of reference for exploring the area.

The fort's role in the fortress system
Fort I Salis Soglio formed part of the outer ring of the Przemyśl Fortress, a connected system of defensive works and fortress roads. It was built between 1882 and 1886 to a design by Daniel Salis-Soglio. The fort was blown up on 22 March 1915, but substantial features remain.
It is one of the best-preserved and most striking features of the fortress’s outer ring despite its destruction.
Surviving structures include a brick entrance gate, gorge barracks with casemates, ammunition stores and lift shafts, artillery positions, and crew shelters on the rampart. These elements give the site its character as a former defensive installation, rather than a complete, intact fort.
Fort I is also protected as a monument: it was registered under number A-1458 on 3 November 1987. It lies within the area recognized as the historic monument “Przemyśl Fortress.”
